Multi-Tenant Access Control

Multi-Tenant Access Control in San Diego

Separate Tenant Permissions & Manage Shared Access from One System

Different occupants need access to different parts of a property without making shared entrances and common areas difficult to manage. We design and install customized commercial security systems around each property’s layout, tenant boundaries, access points, and operational requirements.

A coordinated system connects controlled doors and credentials through one administrative platform, with records of entry activity available for review. Property managers can add, change, or revoke access when employees leave, credentials are lost, vendors need temporary entry, or tenant occupancy changes.

More Than 75 Years of Combined Security Technology Experience

Silverstrand Technologies Inc. brings more than 75 years of combined experience to complex technology projects. Our work spans access control, surveillance, and fire alarms. We also design and install structured cabling, audiovisual systems, and sound masking. This range is valuable when a property’s access system can coordinate with existing infrastructure or other security technology.

Our manufacturer-trained and certified staff guide projects from consultation and detailed design through installation and ongoing service. In-house project management provides a consistent point of coordination for property stakeholders, installation phases, and technical requirements.

We’ve worked in environments ranging from small offices to large campuses. Whether a property has one shared lobby or several buildings with distinct tenant groups, we develop the design around the site instead of forcing it into a standard configuration.

Control Access Across Entrances, Suites, & Common Areas

A property-wide design defines who can enter each controlled area and when. Shared doors can remain within the building’s central system while tenant-specific permissions limit access to private suites, floors, or restricted rooms.

Depending on the property, the access plan may address:

  • Main Entrances: Building access for tenants, property staff, approved vendors, and visitors.
  • Tenant Areas: Separate permissions for individual suites, floors, or occupant groups.
  • Circulation Points: Controlled elevators, stairwell doors, gates, and connections between buildings.
  • Shared Amenities: Scheduled access to parking areas, common rooms, and other tenant facilities.
  • Operational Spaces: Restricted entry to loading areas, maintenance rooms, and building systems.

For properties with multiple buildings, one permission structure can cover the broader site while maintaining separate rules for each building, floor, or tenant group. The right design depends on the doors, hardware, wiring, network conditions, and emergency egress requirements already in place.

Manage Tenant Credentials, Permissions, & Access Records

Credential options may include cards, key fobs, mobile credentials, keypads, or another method suited to the property and its users. Permission groups can distinguish among tenants, employees, property staff, contractors, service providers, and visitors without giving everyone the same level of access.

Central management allows authorized administrators to add users, deactivate lost credentials, revise schedules, and update permissions during tenant turnover. A lost credential doesn’t necessarily require changing physical locks throughout the property. Depending on the selected platform, approved administrators may also be able to manage access through a cloud-based system.

Audit trails record credential activity at controlled access points. Property managers can use these records to review entry events, investigate access questions, and monitor shared and restricted areas. Visitor access and temporary permissions can also be incorporated into the design from the start.

How We Plan & Install Multi-Tenant Access Control

We plan each project around the property’s physical conditions, current technology, users, and operating priorities. When required, the scope can account for integration with surveillance, intrusion detection, fire alarms, or structured cabling.

Our project approach includes:

  • Consultation: We discuss the property, controlled doors, tenant groups, shared spaces, existing systems, and administrative needs.
  • Detailed Design: We develop a customized system plan based on the building layout and defined access requirements.
  • Project Coordination: We organize installation phases, technical dependencies, and communication among property stakeholders.
  • Installation: Our certified staff install the approved components and coordinate applicable system integration.
  • Ongoing Support: We provide through-life support as occupancy, system requirements, or property needs change.
